Obituary for Dennis Duane Yerton

Dennis Duane Yerton, 69, of Salem, VA., formerly of Pagosa Springs, CO., for forty years, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 2, 2020. He was born on Tuesday, January 2, 1951, in Glendale, CA., to the late John Henry Yerton and Dorothy Maxine Herzog Yerton. Dennis was an avid golfer and all-around sportsman. Along his journey of life, he became a private pilot, enjoyed hangliding, surfing, skiing, and most definitely golfing with his sons. Dennis was a loving father, a cherished son, an adored husband, a brother, friend, and mentor, but his greatest joy was being a “Bumpa” to his grandchildren. Serving as a board member of the Pagosa Springs Pregnancy Center and jail ministry in addition to his work as an Elder in the church, Dennis made a difference in the lives of countless people. With his infectious laugh and boundless generosity Dennis made an impact on all he knew. His integrity, strength of character and willingness to lead others through adversity were a window to the soul of a man whose heart belonged to Jesus. His greatest desire in life was to be with his savior. In this sorrowful moment, we can rest assured in the knowledge that he is indeed at home in the arms of his Lord. We take solace in the knowledge that our separation is temporary, and his legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of his children and grandchildren. Donec videamus invicem rursus Pater familias. (Until we see each other again Father).

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Thomas and Carrie Yerton; maternal grandparents, Nicholas and Elizabeth Herzog.

Those who remain to cherish his memory include his wife, Paula Lynn Yerton; sons, John Yerton, Josh Yerton, and Jeremiah Yerton; daughter, Christina Berry; grandchildren, Lucas, Tessa, Sarah, Conner, and Ellie; siblings, Mike Yerton, Terry Yerton, Maria Dishongh, Rita Petit, and Teresa Yerton.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2020, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to deedandtruth.org in Dennis’s honor.
