Newspaper X Clarence Lee Adkins, 89, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 3, 2021.
Clarence was born on September 14, 1931, to Frank S. and Bertha Smith Adkins, the third child out of a total of eleven children. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Airforce. He was a dedicated employee of the VA Medical Center in Salem, where he retired after thirty-three years as a Nursing Assistant. A loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather, he will be deeply missed, leaving behind a legacy of love and faith to be carried on in his memory.
Preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Bertha Adkins; Loving wife of 64 years, Mildred Adkins; brothers, Frank (Tiny), Ernest (Pee Wee), John, Fred, and Safford;
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Bonnie J. Adkins, Rhonda A. Hernandez, and Donna M. Adkins; seven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert and Russell Adkins; sisters, Florence Sheppard (Dale), Barbara Croy (Connie), and Hazel Adkins; there were many in-laws to the Howard family whom he viewed as his brothers and sisters; also left to cherish his memory are numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel. Clarence will be laid to rest immediately following the service at Sherwood Memorial Park. Pastor Mike Flinchum will be officiating.
