Cathelyn Wildhaber Barnette, 94, of Salem, went to be with the Lord, on Monday, August 10, 2020.

Cathelyn was born April 2, 1926, in Patrick Springs, Virginia. The daughter of the late Joseph Arnold Wildhaber from St. Gallen, Switzerland, and Ethel Moore Goard of Patrick Springs, Virginia. She moved to Salem in the 1930s where she attended Andrew Lewis High School and remained there until she married the late Kerry R. Barnette Jr. on September 24, 1954 and shared 47 years of love. She spent several years working at Peacock Cleaners in Salem and becoming a dedicated employee to the Noland Co. of Newport News, VA before becoming a housewife and caring for her loving family. She loved tending to her flowers, shopping, baking, classic country music, and last but not least the color pink. Her two grandsons Kerry and Dusty were her pride and joy. Cathelyn’s sense of humor was amazing, she had a laugh that was infections, however, she would have you laughing along with her even at the wrong times. The most loving and amazing mother a family could desire. She will deeply be missed by her family, and they will always cherish the memories they shared with their sweet Mama and Nanny!

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph, and Ethel Wildhaber; her loving husband, Kerry J. Barnette Jr.; brother, Frank Wildhaber; as well as her sister in law, Anita Reynolds Wildhaber.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Kimberly McDonough (Sean) of Buchanan, Virginia, and Kay Collins of Charlotte, North Carolina; two grandsons, Kerry Steven Caldwell of Christiansburg, Virginia, and Pvt. Dusty Wayne Sarver (Christina) who is currently on active duty, serving his country in Eagle River, Alaska; eight great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kyle, and Lily Caldwell of Riner, Virginia, Kennedy and Kerry Shannon Caldwell, as well as Dayla Taylor, also of Christiansburg, Virginia, Hanna Elizabeth Cooper and Dusty Michael Sarver of Eagle Rock, Alaska; sister, Wilma Glorene Wildhaber of Salem, Virginia; two nieces, Trinia Bointnott (Dale) of Boones Mill, Virginia, and Kathy Bowman (Ben) of Rocky Mount, Virginia.

Cathelyn will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke, Virginia, on Monday, August 17, 2020, following a private family graveside service.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Perez, Dr. Wilson, as well as the entire staff of Catawba Hospital for all the compassionate and loving care they provided to Cathelyn.
