Obituary for Betsy Ann Harman (Banks)

Betsy Banks Harman, 91, of Salem, VA peacefully went to Heaven to be with her Lord on Wednesday, November 15, 2022. She was born to Wayne Montgomery and Cumbia Hicks Banks in Carrol County, VA.

Her loving husband, William (Bill) M. Harman passed away in 2000. Left to cherish her memory, children; William Thomas (Tom) Harman and late daughter-in-law, Cindy Harman; Jenny Harman Kidd and her husband Douglas Edward Kidd; four grandchildren, Nathan Edward Kidd and wife Sophie, Christy Kidd Schucker and husband, Matt, Scott Adams and his wife Wendy, and Jeff Adams; eight great-grandchildren, Naomi, Abigail, Zackary, Ella, Daisy, Andrew, Serena, and Yasmine. Her great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and she took great pleasure in knowing and loving them.
Betsy spent most of her adult life in Christiansburg, VA where she and Bill were active members of Main Street Baptist Church. Bill Was a deacon and Betsy visited shut-ins and they both served in many areas of ministry. Betsy moved to Salem after Bill’s passing and became an active member of Rosalind Hills Baptist Church where she continued to serve in the church and made many good friends.

When Betsy could no longer live at home she moved to Salem Terrace and appreciated all they did to serve her. Later when her health began to fail, Good Samaritan Hospice staff joined in to address end-of-life needs. The family is very grateful for all the care and love shown by both groups and thank them for all their love and effort in making Betsy’s life as comfortable as possible.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 19, 2022, from 5 pm – 7 pm, at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, located in Salem, Va.
