Charlotte Craig Lawrence Allman, 93, of Salem, was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, November 8, 2018. Born in Huntington, West Va. on December 13, 1924, she was preceded in death by her grandparents (“Mama” and “Daddy”), William Figgett and Annie Belle Walters, who lovingly raised her from an early age. Also preceding her in death were her husbands, Charles W. Lawrence and James Allman.
Left to honor her life are her children, Marcie Davidson and husband, Steve, Cathy Eversole and husband, Sonny, Larry Lawrence and wife, Susan, Steve Lawrence and wife, Lori, James Allman II and wife, Linda, and Virginia Divers and husband, Gene. Charlotte was blessed with nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Charlotte had the gift of hospitality. Hebrews 13:2 Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.
Visiting friends, the sick, and shut-ins, Charlotte always came with something in her hands, whether a basket of fruit, favorite food, or a special trinket from her home.
Traveling was something she enjoyed, visiting many interesting destinations around the United States and abroad to England and Scotland.
Charlotte loved her home church at West Salem Baptist in Salem and was frequently visited by friends when she was no longer able to attend.
Charlotte started her career at Chesapeake and Potomac in Christiansburg and transferred to Norfolk, Va. during WW II to work at the busy seaport.
After raising her family, she began working again at C & P in Roanoke and retired in 1984 with 20 years of service.
The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Dan Carawan. A private committal will be held at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Oaks Assisted Living and Mountain View at Richfield for their loving care during the past two plus years as well as a thank you to Good Samaritan Hospice for their guidance and care.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Samaritans Purse for recent hurricane relief or a charity of choice in Charlotte’s memory.
Hebrews 12 …And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.
