Robert Monroe  Alls
Robert Monroe Alls, 84, of Salem, Va. passed peacefully and quietly to his heavenly home on Friday, November 2, 2018, at Lewis – Gale Medical Center in Salem. He was born on Tuesday, November 14, 1933, to the late Arnold Wade and Eva Blankenship Alls. Robert was a true patriot, he served his country in the U.S. Army in 1957 and 1958 as an MP in the DMZ in Korea. He retired after 32 years of service from the U.S. Postal Service in Salem. Robert enjoyed NASCAR, the Washington Redskins football, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and ballroom dancing with his wife. He was an expert marksman. Robert was a member of Taylor Masonic Lodge #23, Roanoke Shriner's, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Club 300 Ballroom Dancing, Roanoke Valley Harley Owners Group, and First Baptist Church of Roanoke. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by sisters; Annie Mae Hall and Kathleen Farris; brother-in-law, Donald Martin.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Carolyn “Suzie” Martin Alls; daughter, Penny Alls of Salem; nephews, Ronald Thompson and wife, Carolyn of Roanoke; Tony Farris of Salem; nieces, Wilda Wilson and Christine Thompson of Mocksville, Nc., Kathy Frye and Elaine Thompson of Salem, Ester Alls and Lynn Thompson of Roanoke; brother-in-law, James Martin, Jr. and wife, Carolyn, of Roanoke; sisters-in-law, Shirley Thompson and husband, Paul, and Catherine Martin of Roanoke, and Bonnie Martin of Gretna ; and his beloved dog, Mollie.
A funeral service to celebrate Robert’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem with Ray Holley officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service.
