Edsel Ernest  Basham
Edsel Ernest Basham, 87, of Salem, Va., went home to be with his Lord on Monday, July 23, 2018. He was born and raised in Floyd, Va. and was also a longtime resident of Russell County, Va.

He was a U.S. Army veteran having been stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. As a business owner, he was a longtime mechanic with Rosedale Heavy Equipment. He enjoyed working in the yard, and loved his family very much.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ernest G. and Ada Dobbins Basham; siblings, Lavene Nichols and Vern Basham; son, Tim Basham; and son-in-law, Donald Maxwell.

His surviving family includes his wife of 63 years, Mary Basham; children, Sherry Maxwell and Terry Basham and wife, Kathy; siblings, Dorothy Palmer and husband, Bill, and James Basham and wife, Rose; grandchildren, Jennifer Moles and husband, Kourtney, Jonathan Maxwell and wife, Mindy, Josh Maxwell and wife, Christa, Stephanie Alderson and husband, Bill, and Jeremy Basham; 8 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marie Basham; brother-in-law, Max Reed and wife, Louise, and their family; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family extends special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at the Salem VA Medical Center for the love and care they provided.

A period of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Va. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2018, in the funeral home’s chapel with Rev. Brian Gordon officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to the Riverside Evangelical Methodist Church at 1920 Lucas Street in Salem, Va. 24153. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.
