Obituary for Lisa Jean Gleixner Brown
Lisa Jean Gleixner Brown, 64, of Salem, went into the loving arms of the Lord on Saturday, July 22, 2017.
She was a magna cum laude graduate of Roanoke College, and also graduated with honors from Virginia Western Community College. Lisa was a beloved teacher with the City of Salem Schools for nearly 30 years. Her church membership was held at the Salem Presbyterian Church where she served as an ordained elder and deacon, clerk of session, Sunday School teacher, and youth leader. Her biggest joys in life were singing in the chancel choir and playing in the bell choir. One of her greatest honors was singing in Carnegie Hall with her husband, Alex, and the rest of the choir. Lisa was most proud of her children, Heather and Josh, who were the lights of her life.
Preceding her in death were her grandparents, George and Louisa Gleixner, and Martha Davis; mother, Martha Lee Gleixner; aunt, Mary Miller; and father-in-law, Maxwell Brown.
Her surviving family includes her father, Henry Gleixner and wife, Barbara; loving husband, Alex Brown; children, Heather Lee Diderich and husband, Chuck, and Joshua Brown; brother, Glenn Gleixner and wife, Lisa; stepsisters, Cindy McManaway and husband, James, and Debra Williams; mother-in-law, Tootie Brown and husband, Melvin Hollandsworth; brother-in-law, Gibson Brown and wife, Joanna; sisters-in-law, Shelton Duffy and husband, Ritchie, and Liz Repass and husband, Mike; uncles, William Davis and wife, Molly, and Thomas Davis; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family extends sincere thanks to Dr. Debra Mowrey and the rehabilitation staff on the 4th floor of Lewis-Gale Medical Center, Dr. Paul Richards, Dr. William Fintel, and the staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Care, Dr. Rogers, Dr. McCool, Trisha, Missy, and staff of radiology, 6 west staff at Lewis-Gale Medical Center, and Rev. Will Robinson, Rev. Janet Chisom, Kitty Beehner, Reed Carter, and the congregation of Salem Presbyterian Church, and many friends and family members for the loving care and loyalty.
Family and friends may visit from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, in Gresham Hall at Salem Presbyterian Church. A memorial service celebrating Lisa’s life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, in the sanctuary at Salem Presbyterian Church. A reception will immediately follow in Gresham Hall. Due to the summer heat, please dress casually.
