William Mason John, 83 of Salem, VA passed away Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Lewis Gale Hospital, Salem. Beloved Husband, Father, Uncle and Grandfather. He was born August 7, 1933 in Montgomery County, VA youngest son of the late J. Griffith John and Cleo Dosing John. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Griffith John Jr, and his first wife, Ann W. John.

He is survived by his loving and caring wife of 14 years, Barbara Graham John; sisters, Dorothy Stewart, Bernice “Bunny” Harless and husband Edward, Mary Ann Beagle and husband Ben; son, Gary M. John; grandchildren, Mason T. John and Jaron G. John; step-children, Barry A. Graham and Cathy Graham Harrison and husband Glenn; step-grandchildren, Jason Graham and wife Rachel, Evan Graham, Tamara Harrison, Eli Harrison, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. John was retired from General Electric with 40 years of service. He was a US Navy Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a 32 Degree Mason of Taylor Lodge and Former Captain of the Provost Guard at Kazim Temple. Mr. John “Bill” was also an avid bluegrass music fan for many years.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive
friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm at John M. Oakey and son, Salem. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.

The family would like to thank Dr. Karrie, Dr. Michael Malpass and the ladies at the infusion center for their kindness and care given to Mr. John.
