Obituary for Robert Dean Jones

Robert D. Jones, age 84, of Salem, Va., passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017.

He was born in Salem, Va. on Friday, June 3, 1932, to the late Willie L. and Nora B. Jones. He was also preceded in death by eight brothers and five sisters.

Robert is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Opal M. Jones. Also surviving are his children, Karen J. Keith and husband, Buddy, Gail J. Zimmerman and husband, Randy, Billy Jones and wife, Mary Ann, and Nancy J. Price and husband, Bryan; grandchildren, Jennifer P. Halahan and husband, Ron, Scott Price and wife, Mandy, Emily Z. Herndon and husband, Patrick, Nathan Keith, Andy Jones and wife, Jessica, David Zimmerman and wife, Katie, Katy K. Sheffey and husband, Jamar, Adam Jones, and Desmond Stuart; and great-grandchildren, Tenaeja, Trinity, and Leah-Mae Grace Sheffey, Calvin, Elizabeth, Robert, and Adrianna Herndon, Brantley, Gavin, and Baby Jones, and Emory and Rowan Price. He is also survived by 2 special nieces, Rhoda Hash and Ramona Whitaker, which were like daughters to him; and also a sister-in-law, Frances M. Mullins. Robert was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Robert was retired from Rowe Furniture and after his retirement from Rowe worked by his son’s side at FASTSIGNS. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War veteran.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at Bethel Baptist Church in Salem, Va. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Ivey Adams and Rev. Hilton Jeffreys officiating. Interment will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

The family would especially like to thank Keith Reynolds, special neighbor, for all his love, help, and support to Robert and Opal. The family would also like to express their gratitude to the staff at Raleigh Court Health & Rehabilitation in Roanoke, Va. for the excellent and loving care to Robert while he resided there the past two years. The family would also like to thank the Good Samaritan Hospice of Roanoke, Va.
