Rayburn Justice "Bud"  Oliver
Rayburn (Bud) Justice Oliver, 91, of Salem, VA passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 13, 2016. Bud was born in Covington, VA on November 17, 1924 to the late Sidney and Lucinda Oliver.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice O. Oliver.
He is survived by his two sons, Gary E. Oliver of Yardley, PA and David W. Oliver and wife, Lucky of Roanoke, VA; grandchildren, Paul Oliver, Victoria Elsayed, Kyna Savedge, Edward Rowell, and Wendy Kemp. He also leaves behind his brother, Sidney E. Oliver, Jr. of Covington, VA; and nine great-grandchildren.
Bud graduated from Covington High School and proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. Following his service, he returned to Covington before attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute, receiving his degree in Mechanical Engineering. After working for E.I. DuPont in Gibbstown, NJ for 35 years, Bud and Janice moved from their long-time home in Pitman NJ back to their home state of Virginia.
Bud was a member of the First Christian Church of Salem and a charter member of the Calvary Christian Church in Covington. He and Janice were long-time square dancers, enjoyed many camping trips with their sons, as well as gardening and looking for covered bridges.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 6 until 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016 at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Covington with the Rev. Michael Warren officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bud’s name to Feed America Southwestern Virginia, 1025 Electric Rd., Salem, VA, 24153.
