Condolences

Condolence From: Mike Kanze
Condolence: Fair winds and following seas, shipmate. Blessings and strength to your family and many friends. Steve and I went through BJN School at NATTC Glynco, GA at about the same time, were stashed for about the same time (different duty stations), and met up again during type training at VA-128. After that we went our separate ways. Nice guy - wish that we had had more time together.

Condolence From: Spencer Hendron
Condolence: RIP sir. I was his brother David's debriefing officer when he returned in 1973. Two nicer, more genuine, heroic US military men there never were. Great family visited and I had the honor to meet Steven as well as spending unforgettable time with Dave. Breaks my heart that both of these great men are gone way to soon. My sincerest condolences. Spencer Hendron Major, USAF (Ret.)

Condolence From: Tim and Diane Colie
Condolence: Mrs. Baker and family, Admiral Baker was my CO in VA-42 and my CAG on the USS George Washington. Many of the enlisted folks called him "Sierra Hotel" Baker, mainly because he just made things better. He had an infectious passion for people and a genuine concern for our welfare. He was one of a kind. God bless your family. Warm regards, Tim Colie Master Chief (USN RET)

Condolence: Patty and Family, We are so very sad for you all with Steve's passing. Such fine memories of one of the greatest influences on our lives...never a dull moment, ever. Never saw him without a smile, never saw him have a bad day. The impact that he had on a young lieutenant and his new wife are forever etched in who we have become...and I think that is very good. I will be late for this one, but count on me to be in Salem the weekend of 29 April. By then, maybe our tears will be fewer. Rest assured that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Otter and Cindy

Condolence: Patty and family, I would like to express my deepest condolences... I was in VA-115 with Adm Baker and I was the Force Master Chief with you in Bahrain, on the NavCent staff... My best memories of my time there include working & relaxing with the COS... We could share Midway stories, because there are only two types of Sailors in the Navy, those who can tell Midway sea stories, and those who wish they could. I went to his assumption of command ceremony at OPTEVFOR and met his brother Bull there, now that was a treat for me, a double Baker... Whenever I was in Norfolk, I would by stop by to see him... He made the Navy fun and his men would walk through fire for him, I sure would...

Condolence: Steve was well respected and loved by all. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, church, and neighbors. A brother, a friend, a champion in every way. A loss for everyone that no words can describe. A gain for those in Heaven. Kevin and I will miss him terribly. Our hearts are broken. We will always be there for you, sweet Patty.
