In Loving Memory of
Robert Garrett
Robert Garrett, 84, of Salem, died on Wednesday, June 18, 2008. A
1941 graduate of
Andrew
Lewis
High School, Bob served in the Army in the Philippines
during World War II. He was
the owner-operator of the OK Tire Store on the Boulevard in Salem
for over 30 years and was one of the oldest members of the Salem Penguin
Club. Bob was preceded in
death by his mother, Grace Wimmer Garrett; father, Douglas L. Garrett;
brother, Lewis Douglas Garrett; sister, Hazel Garrett; and his wife of 59
years, Birdine Jones Garrett. Survivors
from Salem
include his niece, Angela Garrett Lieb; great nieces, Tina Lieb Bourne,
Madison L. Bourne, and Callie M. Bourne; cousins, Howard Wimmer, Gob
Garrett, and John Garrett; and special friends, Milton Reich, Larry
Richardson, Homer Bast, Cheryl Rogers, and all the members of the Penguin
Club which he loved. Survivors
from North Carolina
include his sister, June Garrett Broughman and husband, Leonard; nieces,
Linda Broughman and Kathy Broughman; and nephews, Steven and Doug
Broughman. Survivors from Chesterfield,
VA
include special friends, Polly and Wayne Crouch and family.
Special thanks go to caregivers, Abel Ali and Sarah LeBrun for
their wonderful service. The
family will receive friends on Sunday, June 22, 2008 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
as well as on Monday, June 23, 2008 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the
John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A graveside service will be
held on Monday, June 23, 2008 at 1 p.m. at
Sherwood
Memorial Park
in
Salem. The Rev. Bobby Pickle will
officiate. In lieu of flowers,
the family requests memorial gifts be made in Bob’s name to the Salem
Volunteer Rescue Squad at P.O. Box
291
in Salem,
Virginia
