In Loving Memory of

Helen Buck Overstreet

Helen Buck Overstreet, 93, of Salem, died on Tuesday, April 15, 2008.  Helen was a graduate of Roanoke College and taught English for 22 years at Cave Spring High School.  She loved teaching and kept in touch with many of her students throughout her retirement.  Helen was also a faithful member of College Lutheran Church for more than 74 years.  Preceding her in death were her parents, the Rev. W. C. Buck and Ora Cunduff Buck; husband, Rangely L. Overstreet; daughter, Diane O. Ferrara; and son, Michael L. Overstreet.  Her surviving family includes sisters, Mildred B. Fulk of Rural Hall, NC and Virginia B. Smith of Oklahoma City, OK; son-in-law, William F. Ferrara of Smithfield, NC; granddaughters, Kathryn Fleming and husband, Miles (Mike), of Smithfield, NC, and Tina O. Nelson of Bullhead City, AZ; great-grandchildren, Kate and Miles Fleming of Smithfield, NC and 3 others of Bullhead City, AZ; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Overstreet of Salem, VA.  She wishes to extend special thanks to four devoted friends: Hope Frank, Joe and Celi Stoutamire, and to her dear daughter-in-law, Barbara Overstreet.  Friends may visit anytime on Sunday, April 20, 2008 after 12 Noon at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem.  The family, however, will be available to receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. only.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 21, 2008 at 11 a.m. at College Lutheran Church in Salem with interment at Sherwood Memorial Park.  The Rev. Bob Ward and the Rev. Dwayne Westerman will officiate.  A reception will immediately follow at the church.  Flowers are appreciated, or donations may be made in her honor to a charity of choice.  Helen’s favorites were the Christian Children’s Fund, the Salvation Army, and the Rescue Mission.  Online condolences may be made to the family at johnmoakey.com.  The Overstreet family is being served by John M.
