In Loving Memory of

Donald Raymond Carroll

Donald Raymond Carroll, 73, of Salem, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2008 while surrounded by his family.  He had worked for the City of Salem, owned his own excavating business, and then later retired from Roanoke County.  He was also a member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church.  Most of all, he was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather (GaGa).  Preceding him in death were his parents, Lewis G. Carroll and Minnie B. Carroll; wife of 50 years, Joyce H. Carroll; and brothers, Ray E. Carroll and William (Bill) G. Carroll.  His surviving family includes his daughters, Peggy C. Boothe and husband, Andy, and Barbara C. Frye and husband, Jack; granddaughter, Maggie M. Frye; step-granddaughters, Cheryl Lunsford and Lisa Bess and husband, David; step-great-grandchildren, Erin and Ryan Lunsford, Brandon Spencer, and Brooke Bess; mother-in-law, Lucy C. Hibbitts; sisters-in-law, Elfrieda Smith and Monique Carroll; and numerous other family members and friends.  The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 20, 2008 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 21, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home’s chapel.  Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.  The Rev. Elwood Carwile and the Rev. Emory Tarpley will officiate.  Flowers are appreciated and donations made in his honor may be sent to the Fort Lewis Fire & Rescue at 3915 West Main Street in Salem, Virginia 24153.  Online condolences to the family may be made at johnmoakey.com.  The Carroll family is being served by John M.
