Charles E. Shenberger, 95, died January 10, 2019 in Salem, Virginia. Charlie was born in York, Pa. on April 24, 1923 to Paul Gordon Shenberger and Helen Loucks Shenberger. He graduated from William Penn Senior High School in York. He served as a navigator in the 8th Air Force in World War II and was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute in1947. He was vice president of B & G Olsen Co., Mechanical Contractors in Richmond, VA until 1964 when he entered seminary training, graduating from the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Gettysburg, PA in 1967. He served for 19 years as Assistant to the Bishop of the Virginia Synod, Lutheran Church in America before his retirement in 1988. He is survived by his family he loved so dearly, his beloved wife of 71 years, Margaret (Peggy) Raiford Shenberger, Salem, Va.; daughter Anne Shenberger of Philadelphia, PA, daughter Susan Shenberger of Salem, VA; stepgrandson, Joseph Modica (Lora); and stepgreat-grandson, Nicolus Alexander Modica of Roanoke, Va.; and grandniece, Jennifer Ruchalski of Sussex, N.J. A memorial service will be held at College Lutheran Church, at a later time, The Rev. David Drebes officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to College Lutheran Church, Good Samaritan Hospice, or Lutheran Family Services of VA.
