Obituary for Marion Ruth MacMillan Moody (MacMillan)

Print
Marion MacMillan Moody, 92, of Salem, Va., passed away peacefully on Monday, January 14, 2019, at The Hermitage in Roanoke, just five years and a day after the death of her beloved husband of 64 years, Henry S. Moody, Jr.

Daughter of Robert and Grace MacMillan, she was born and raised in Richmond, Va. She retained her charming Richmond accent throughout her life.

Following graduation from John Marshall High School in 1943, she trained to operate a comptometer, an extremely fast key-driven mechanical calculator. She worked for the C & O Railroad and Virginia Folding Box Company.

When husband, Henry, was called to the ministry, she gave him her steadfast support. Together they served six United Methodist churches in Virginia, including Mt. Pleasant in Roanoke and Central in Salem. She took an active role singing with the choir, participating in Sunday School and United Methodist Women, and leading quietly by example.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Mildred MacMillan McCullough.

Her surviving family includes brothers, James MacMillan of Florence, S.C., and William MacMillan of Richmond, Va.; daughters, Christy M. Davis of Staunton and Beth E. Moody of Salem; grandsons, Cameron Davis of Staunton, Corbin Davis and wife, Deborah, of Washington, D.C., and Andrew Davis of Denver, Colo.; great-granddaughter, Zoe of Washington, D.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will greet visitors at 10 a.m. prior to an 11 a.m. service on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at Central United Methodist Church, 428 S. College Avenue in Salem, Va. Reverend Bryan Buckles will officiate.

The family appreciates the loving and compassionate care given by the nurses, caregivers, servers, and other Hermitage staff. Marion especially enjoyed the rose garden below her window. For those wishing to honor her memory, the family suggests a contribution towards its maintenance. Gifts may be sent to The Hermitage, 1009 Old Country Club Road, Roanoke, Va. 24017 with a notation of “Rose Garden.” Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.
