Obituary for Cynthia Diane "Cindy" Whitecotton (Cole)

Cynthia Diane "Cindy" Whitecotton (Cole)
Cindy Whitecotton, 64, of Salem, Va., went home to be with the Lord and join her loving husband on Saturday, November 17, 2018, after a short illness.

Cindy was such a kind and caring sister, friend, niece, and aunt on earth and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She cherished her family and friends. Cindy worked at Carillion for over 30 years and retired in 2013. Cindy had a big heart to help others, and while she was a mentor with the Big Brothers Big Sisters (to Melissa Carter), she met the love of her life, Frank. She was so affectionately known as “Queenie” to friends and family because Frank treated her has his “Queenie”. Cindy was so generous with others and you could always look forward to having some of her home baked goodies. She always baked love for everyone.

Preceding her in death was her loving husband, Frank Whitecotton; parents, Louis and Joyce Cole; and nephew, Lance James.

Cindy is survived by her sisters, Terri (Glen) Hill, Vicky (Ken) Grapel, and Katie (Larry) Davis; brother, Butch (Julie) Cole; nieces and nephews, David Hill, Danielle (Nick) Schmitz, Becca (Drew) Pearson, Brandon (Elena) Cole, Jessica (Craig) Hassan, and Larissa (Julio) Joma; many great-nieces and great-nephews; along with her very “special adopted” kids, Joe and Lisa Bond; and special friends, Linda Baker, Carolyn Cundiff, and Guy and Tammy Angel.

Cindy’s family would like to thank all the family, friends, and special neighbors who have given so much love and support to her during these past several months.

A Celebration of Cindy’s Life will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. The family will receive friends beginning at 5 p.m. If you have a special story or memory of Cindy that you would like to share during this time, please bring it with you.

In lieu of flowers, Cindy would like donations to be made to The America Cancer Society. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.
