She was born in Roanoke, Va. on July 23, 1923, to the late Clyde and Essie Hairfield. She graduated from Jefferson High School and attended National Business College. She worked as a secretary for Appalachian Power and the Pullman Company.

Louise was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her family was her life and joy. She planned family reunions and loved being socially active. She was secretary for her Circle group at Windsor Hill United Methodist Church, played bridge for 50 years with her neighborhood friends, and enjoyed craft classes and the garden club at the Brambleton Center. Louise loved traveling and camping across the country and enjoyed fishing, boating, and spending time at Smith Mountain Lake at Penhook. She loved animals and had many pets over the years.

Louise was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Finney, Jr. in 1969; her second husband, Harding Mattera in 1997; brother, Clyde Hairfield, Jr.; and sisters, Caroline Weeks, Ruth Lee, and Barbara Moyer.

Left to cherish her memory is her brother, Gary Hairfield; sons, Mike Finney (Mary), David Finney, and Mike Mattera; daughters, Susan Finney Tate (Mike), Bonnie White, and Jean Mattera; grandchildren, Matthew, Anne, Tyler, and Scott Finney, Sarah Tate, Katie Stocks, Suzy, Merry, and Billy White, and Wes, Tony, and Brian Mattera; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Her family is grateful for the loving attentive care of the nursing staff at the South Roanoke Nursing Home.
