Obituary for Charles Thomas "Charlie" Jones, Sr.

Charles "Charlie" Thomas Jones Sr., 87, of Salem passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, August 13, 2018. He was born on December 2, 1930 to the late Corbett and Rosie Jones. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Sam Jones; sister, Marie (Joe) Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charlie served in the US Army during the Korean War as a tank commander with the ranking of Staff Sgt and was honorably discharged.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Mildred Mabry Jones;sons, Charlie Jr. and David Jones; daughters, Vicki (Gary) Acree and Susan (Chuck) Moore; grandchildren, Charli and Dakota (Dominique) Jones, Lisa (Jason) Vaughan, Scott Hickson, Ashley (Rodney) and Eli Moore; great-grandchildren, Amonte and Aakyra Jones, Drew, Nickolas, Kaelor, and Jayli Vaughan, Sophie Hancock and Greysen Hickson; sisters, Doris West and Annie Gordon; sisters-in-law, Betty Mabry, Margie Crunk, Anne (Ernie) McPeak; brother-in-law, Otis Mabry; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Intrepid Hospice for their generous care and compassion during his final months. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Charlie's memory.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at John M. Oakey & Son Chapel, Salem. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2018 at the funeral home with Pastor Earnest Fulcher officiating.
