Charlotte Hill "The Babe"  Roop
Charlotte Hill Roop, 89, of Salem, Va., passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018.

She was born in Salem, Va. to the late Howard L. and Letha N. Hill.

Many of her family members and friends affectionately knew her as “The Babe”. She was a part of Andrew Lewis High School’s graduating class of 1949, later worked for Kraft Foods, and was always a loving homemaker for her family. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Salem. Her active involvement included singing in the choir since age 12, making handmade ornaments for the Christmon tree as well as needlework cushions for the pews, and being a part of the Seniors Keeping Young (SKY) group.

Her loving husband, C. Grover Roop, passed away just 7 months ago and she missed him dearly. Their relationship began when she was just 15-years-old, and they were married for 65 years.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by a sister, Eudora Richardson; and a brother, Leas L. Hill.

Her surviving family includes sons, Barry L. Roop and his wife, Jena R., and Michael W. Roop and wife, Sandra G.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and many special friends she valued over the years.

The family expresses their appreciation to Dr. Thomas Morel, nurse Theresa Erb-Miller, and the entire Palliative Care Unit of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their care of Mom as she completed her journey in life.

A period of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2018, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Salem with the Rev. Alan Combs and the Rev. Dr. Michael Houff officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
