Obituary for Eric Theodore Naschold Jr.

Eric T. Naschold, Jr., 89, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017.

He was born and raised in Erie, PA, the son of the late Eric and Clara Wolfe Naschold. He enlisted in the US Army following his high school graduation, which led him to Virginia Military Institute. While at VMI, he earned his Bachelor Degree in electrical engineering, and met his future wife Janice Hoover, whom he married one day after graduation. Eric joined the firm of Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern in 1951 were he spent his professional career, and became a partner in 1969.

After fully retiring in 2003, he began volunteer work in what became his life’s passion, helping to feed the hungry. He worked with Roanoke Area Ministries to renovate a former church to provide a daytime shelter and food for the homeless, and later volunteered with the Community Christmas Store, Feeding America Southwest Virginia Foodbank and the Salem Roanoke County Food Pantry.

Eric led a full and exemplary life, and was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Janice Hoover Naschold; a son, Rick Naschold and his wife Sue; daughter, Marylyn Morgan and husband Greg; four granddaughters, Jennifer Wolfe and her husband Aaron, Anne Morgan, Laura Morgan and Katie Morgan, and two great-grandchildren, Connor and Mackenzie Wolfe.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2PM, Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. Elder Dolph Painter will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Interment at Sherwood Memorial Park will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salem Roanoke County Food Bank or to Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church.
