Obituary for Sandra Lee "Gem" Dick (Keen)

Sandra (Gem) Lee Keen Perkins Dick, 74, of Roanoke, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, September 30, 2017. She was the wife of Charles Edward Dick.

Mrs. Dick devoted her entire life to caring for her own children who were her pride and joy. She worked for the Sears & Roebuck company in Danville. Sandra attended Danville Community College, Virginia Western Community College, Averett University, and Roanoke College where she earned her K-8 teaching degree all while raising seven children of her own. She then worked for the United Post Office and Coding Center in Roanoke, as a substitute teacher for the Roanoke City and Roanoke County School Systems, and she also taught for the Southall Christian School in Danville. Sandra also provided child care out of her own home to many children. She was a member of Mosley Memorial United Methodist Church in Danville and attended Bethel Baptist Church in Salem and Windsor Hills United Methodist Church in Roanoke.

Mrs. Dick was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Lee Keen and Mildred Hardy Keen Adams, and a son, Graham Perkins.

In addition to her husband, Charles, she is survived by six children, Jerri Dishman and husband, Mark; Terri Echols and husband, Timmy; Lendy Gay and husband, Ron; Scott Perkins; Sandi Smith and husband, Caleb; and Jeff Dick; grandchildren, Brandon, Adam, Caitlyn, Travis, Taylor, Tamra, Ashley, Sean, Todd, Heather, Cara, Brandy, Alexandra, Brittany, Zoe, Bowen, and Daylen; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Connie Fowler and Wanda Adams; brother-in-law, H. Wayne Dick and wife, Mary; and her beloved dog, Elvis.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Bethel Baptist Church in Salem with Pastor Hilton Jeffreys officiating. Also, another memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M., Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Mosley Memorial United Methodist Church in Danville with Pastor Elizabeth Nordan officiating.
