Obituary for Katherine Kummer "KiKi" Wilbourne (Kummer)

On Saturday, September 16, 2017, Heaven gained a beautiful angel. Katherine “KiKi” Kummer Wilbourne has joined her husband of 53 years, Jim “Pinky” and her beloved grandson, David, whom she shared the same birthday which was May 28th. She was a loving, devoted, caring, and giving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She cared for everyone, young or old, but she really loved the little children. She was an
Airforce wife who traveled the world with her man, Pinky. They raised four children together.
She was a teacher her whole life. Teaching many places and many subjects. She took a lot of pride in teaching her GED classes for the City of Salem which helped many men and women obtain their high school diplomas. She also taught English as a second language for the City of Salem schools where she was known as the “Candy Lady”. She loved all of her students, young and old. She was a faithful member of College Lutheran Church, but she also loved going to her Sunday school class at Salem Presbyterian Church.
Kiki was one of a kind and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her sons, Tim, Chris, and Dan (Linda) Wilbourne; daughter, Susie (Digs) Hall; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Daniel (Adrienna) Wilbourne as well as Kathryn (Nick) Laraia, R.J. Hall, Molly, Megan, and Maggie Wilbourne; seven great-grandchildren; and her beloved cat, Fluffy.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Susan Taylor and Lynne and Kyle Shively for always being there for her.
The family will receive friends from 3 until 6 p.m. on Monday, September 18, 2017 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A service to celebrate her life will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at College Lutheran Church, 210 S. College Ave, Salem, VA 24153.
