Obituary for Mabel McNeil Light (McNeil)

Mabel “Nana” McNeil Light, 95, of Salem, passed peacefully on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 surrounded by family.

She was born in Pageton, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Minor and Corinne McNeil and grew up in the Locust Grove area of Floyd County, VA. Mabel retired from GE after 18 years of service. Her 95 years of life was spent enjoying and serving her family. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Newton Light; two brothers, Howard McNeil and his wife Ruby, and Jack McNeil and his wife Enola, and two brothers-in-law, Earl Basham and John Shank.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Corinne and Allen Atkinson; grandsons, Brad Atkinson and Denee Diluigi, and Robert Atkinson and his wife Jenny; two great-grandchildren, Gracie and Brayden Atkinson; a brother, Maynard “Casey” McNeil and wife Carol; two sisters, Lois Basham and Louise Shank, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Monday, September 11, 2017 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. Chaplain Seth McCormack will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Burial Park.
