Raymond Wiley "Baldy"  Garnett
Raymond "Baldy" Wiley Garnett, 94, of Salem, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 22, 2017, as he was surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on Monday, April 23, 1923, to the late Minnie and William A. Garnett.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Betty T. Garnett; sister, Cleo Cromer; and brother, William Garnett, Jr.

He is survived by his daughters, Diane Richardson and husband, Price, and Barbara Garnett; his three grandchildren, Brent Richardson and wife, Vickie, Kevin Richardson and wife, Missy, and Angela Kosko and husband, Brian; his seven great-grandchildren, Samantha Richardson, Cody McGlothlin, Kaitlyn Richardson, Nathan Richardson, Madelyn Richardson, Mackenzie Richardson, and Alyssa Kosko; and his companion, his dog Prissy. He is also survived by his sisters, Regina Jobe, and Sue Fulcher and her husband, Buck.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army Artillery in WWII. He retired from the Fred Whittaker Company. He then proceeded to work for Jobe’s Florist, and later went on to work for Spartan Square Kroger until the age of 90. He was an avid bowler, and forever a Salem Spartan, Wahoo, and Orioles fan.

A special thank you goes out to the nursing staff on 6 West at Lewis-Gale Medical Center for their outstanding love and support not only to their patients but to the families as well.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 24, 2017, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Bryan Buckles officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
