James Lonnie Cox, 78, of Salem, went to his Heavenly home on Monday, July 10, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtha Rhodes Cox; and parents, Lonnie G. Cox and Opa Mae Cox. James is survived by his three sons, Robert L. Cox and wife, Sonya, James Alvin Cox, and Richard Cox and wife, Shelly; five grandchildren, Sarah M. Cox, Alyson T. Cox, Angela Hannah, Michelle Cox, Eddie and Lucas Ball; three great-grandchildren, Autumn and Kieley Hannah and Toby Campellone; as well as his step-daughters, Glenna C. Hungate and husband, Darrell, Regina C. Ball and husband, Jeff, and Rebecca C. Lawrence and husband, Roger; two brothers, Roger D. Cox and wife, Peggy and Exel Lakewood Cox and wife, Betty; sister, Mardell Cox; and his ’lil buddy, Oscar. James was a man who worked hard and always provided for his family. He loved to serve his church and his community. He was a long-time member of Peters Creek Church of the Brethren. James especially loved to travel and experience the world. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the people who made his transition easy. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017 at Peters Creek Church of the Brethren with Minister Sonya M. Cox officiating.
