George Martin  Hoffman
George Martin Hoffman, 81, of Salem, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Henry, IL, a son of the late Sylvester and Thelma Bush Hoffman and had been a Salem area resident since 1977. He was Honorably Discharged from the United States Navy after twenty years, which included service during both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Following his service to his country, he was employed at Community Hospital as a Bio-Medical Technician. George enjoyed traveling, was an avid fisherman, and later in life became an avid armchair fisherman, but mostly enjoyed the time spent with family, grandkids and great-grandkids.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Rollie Phillips, three brothers, and three sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ruth Aliff Hoffman; a son, Glenn Hoffman and wife Jean; two daughters, Ramona Bryant and husband Donnie; Janet Phillips; a brother, John Hoffman and wife Barbara; sister, Mary Dahlen and husband Francis; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. Pastors Dan Carawan and Sam Huntley will officiate. Burial will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 3959 Electric Rd. Roanoke, VA 24018.
