Obituary for Jackie Lee Boggs

Jackie Lee Boggs, 78, of Salem, passed away at home on Sunday, June 11, 2017, surrounded by his family.

He retired from John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem in 2004. He then worked at V.C.O.M. at Virginia Tech for 12 years.

Jackie was an avid yard saler, and loved to work on lawnmowers for whoever needed help. He was a big Salem Spartan fan, and enjoyed coaching and referring youth sports. If his grandchildren were playing, he was there cheering them on. He was a member of Ridgewood Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Corbett and Lydia Boggs; and two brothers, Hershel Boggs and Corbett Boggs, Jr.

Surviving is his wife, Anna Boggs of 59 years; son, Bryan Boggs (Lia); daughter, Robin Jewell (Sam); grandchildren, Chris Jewell (Ashley), Ashley Jewell, Andy Boggs, Emily Gillikin (Matt), and Erin Boggs; great-grandchildren, Emmett Jewell, Kherington Jewell, and Langston Jewell; and various nieces and nephews.

He will be so gratefully missed by his family and friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Greene, Dr. Grove, and Dr. Andrew Fintel as well as the nurses at Lewis-Gale SICU. A very special thank you to the nurses, Angela, Monica, and Cinde from Good Samaritan Hospice.

Friends and family may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, also in the chapel, with Rev. Roy Kanode and Pastor Ben Lockhart officiating. Interment will immediately follow at East Hill Cemetery in Salem.
