Obituary for Douglas Nolan Hale

Douglas Nolan Hale, 73, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 27, 2017

Doug was a US Navy veteran. He was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad and most recently worked for Lowe’s and John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. He held memberships with the Taylor Masonic Lodge #23, the Scottish Rite, and the Lion’s Club. His church membership was formerly held at Tabernacle Baptist and currently at Salem Baptist where he sang in the choir and was active in the Discovery Sunday School class. This loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend will be greatly missed.

Preceding him in death were his parents, James and Dorothy Hale; wife, Wanda Sue Hale; sister, Carma Reynolds; and an infant daughter.

His surviving family includes his wife, Peggy Campbell Hale; children, Brian Hale and wife, Niki, and Amy Altice and husband, Greg; granddaughters, Ashley Hale, Tori Wimmer, and Maddy Angle; very special grandson, Christian Haley; siblings, Rodney James Hale, Bonnie Walker and husband, Mike, Sid Hale and wife, Helen, and Sharon Doyle; mother-in-law, Ann Campbell; sister-in-law, Nancy Lewis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Special gratitude is extended to Amy Jeffreys and Medi Home Health & Hospice as well as the entire 6 west care team at Lewis-Gale Medical Center for their loving care.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2017, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2017, at Salem Baptist Church. Interment will immediately follow at Sherwood Memorial Park with Masonic rites and military honors. The Rev. Everett Kier and the Rev. Rodney Hale will officiate.
