Obituary for Thomas Richard "Tommy" Hale

Thomas “Tommy” Hale, 72, of Salem, passed away Friday, April 14, 2017.

A native and lifelong Salemite, Tommy was the son of the late Cleatus and Mary Hodges Hale. He began his working career as a welder and machinist before becoming co-owner of Danny’s Auto Glass, Inc. from which he retired from 10 years ago. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, and was a big fan of both Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Dale, Jr. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, and was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Emory Hale, and a nephew, Danny Hale.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Lois McNeil Hale; three brothers-in-law, Jim McNeil and wife Putzie, Roger McNeil and wife Jean; David McNeil and wife Bunny; three sisters-in-law, Margaret O’Neil and husband Glenn, Dot Pruitt and husband Harry, Bonnie Woodward and husband Michael; special niece, Lori Wilson and her daughter, Aubrey; special nephew, Terry McNeil, as well as numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins, all whom he treated and loved as his own.

Funeral Services will be held at 7PM, Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. Rev. Loraine Taylor will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 5PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 2840 Electric Rd. Suite 106 Roanoke, VA 24018.
