Elizabeth St.Clair Simmons, 80, of Salem, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. Elizabeth was born on December 26, 1936. Elizabeth was passionate about the Lord and her family. She grew up in Salem, Virginia and worked at VDOT for many years. After retirement, she began her second career as church secretary for New Testament Baptist Church. Left to cherish her memory is her son, David St.Clair and wife, Donna; step-son, Joe Simmons and wife, Bonnie; granddaughter, Laura St.Clair; grandson, Cian St.Clair; and step-grandchildren, Ryan Hornady and Brittany Haddox. She will also be missed by friends Jenny Mills, Jennie Steen, Sharon Salmon, Jay and Roxanne Richards, and her fellow parishioners at New Testament Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her son, Donald St.Clair; first husband, Julius B. St.Clair; and second husband, Jake Simmons. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to her caretakers from Passionately Devoted Healthcare and Amedisys Hospice. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2017 at New Testament Baptist Church, 2500 E. Washington Ave., Vinton, VA. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.
