Obituary for Doris Maxine Jones (Hammersley)

Doris “Maxine” Oyler Jones, 86, of Salem, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, March 9, 2017. Maxine was born in Campbell County, Virginia on January 20, 1931. Maxine moved to Salem at a young age where she then spent the remainder of her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank Jackson Hammersley and Alma Elizabeth Vaughan Hammersley; first husband, James Oyler; second husband, Tommy Jones; sister, Virginia “Jenny” Shedlock; brothers, Frank “Peanut” Hammersley and Ernest Victor Hammersley; beloved son-in-law, Tony Bryan; and special cousin, Hazel B. Stump.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Kenneth “Kenny” (Ginger) Oyler, Diane (Tony Strouth) Bryan, and Joyce (Tracy) Saville; grandchildren, Christy (Matt) Harnsberger, Brad (Betsy) Riggs, James Bradshaw, Stephanie (Jeffery) Hunnell, Alicia Saville, and Chris Saville; great-grandchildren, Bowen Riggs, Kyleigh Harnsberger, Bryce Harnsberger, Nathan Bradshaw and his mother, Amy Sheetz, Annie Bradshaw, Brody Bradshaw, Jacob Tucker, and Kaitlynn Tucker; special cousin, Becky Howard Clark; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends and neighbors who were dear to her.
Maxine had an infectious laugh and sweet nature. She never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank the Medi Home Health and Hospice caregivers, Amy and Kathy, for their loving care. They would also like to extend a thanks to their family friend, Lynn McKinney; great-grandchildren, KK and Jacob; grandchild, Stephanie; and cousin, Becky for their bedside vigil. Also to acknowledge her daughter, Diane Bryan, who has lovingly taken care of her mother for so many years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Medi Home Health and Hospice in Maxine’s memory.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, March 13, 2017 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Palmer officiating. A committal will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
