Obituary for Robert "Bob" Parker, Jr.

Robert "Bob" Parker, Jr.
Robert “Bob” E. Parker, Jr., 88, of Salem, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. He was a member of the Salem Pentecostal Church which is now known as Christian Life International, and taught the junior boys Sunday School class for 22 years. Bob was a true outdoorsman and avid gardener. Preceding him in death were his parents, Robert E. Sr. and Myrtle V. Hale Parker; sister, Viola Moses; and daughter, Lisa Ann Parker. His surviving family includes his wife, Betty Parker; children, Paula (Jimmy) Thompson, Jim (Retha) Parker, Susan (Mike) Pedigo, Beth (Darryl) Brickey, Patty Parker, and Debbie (Lee) Stocks; grandchildren, Jessica and Rachel Brickey, Joseph and Jamie Parker, Braden and Grace Stocks, and Danny (Angie) Thompson; and great-grandchildren, Kiarra, Taryn, and Brayden. The family extends special thanks to the 6 west medical and nursing staff at Lewis-Gale Medical Center, Good Samaritan Hospice, and Dr. William Fintel for their loving care. A period of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2017, at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
