Obituary for Cameron Wilson West

Cameron Wilson West, 61, of Salem, Va., passed away at his home on Friday, February 3, 2017.

Cameron was born on Tuesday, July 19, 1955, and was raised and lived most of his life in Salem. After graduating from Andrew Lewis High School, Cameron attended and graduated from Roanoke College with a degree in Business Administration. He worked in the automobile industry for over 30 years, and most of those years were spent at the Berglund Automotive Group. Cameron was well liked and respected by his employers and co-workers; he touched many lives. He loved being in nature. He was a deer hunter and proud member of the Island Ford Hunt Club for 30 years. He diligently tended 6 hummingbird feeders around his home and loved watching the hummingbirds visit. After long hours at work, in the evenings he would cook for his family. To relax, he enjoyed music and was a musician himself. He loved his family above all, and his home in the woods.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Ann Harshbarger West; his uncle, Richard (Dick) Bryan; aunt, Betty Jane Harshbarger Bryan; uncle, Robert Edward Harshbarger; aunt, Dora Kathryn Kellerman Harshbarger; Robert and Dora’s son, Cameron’s cousin, David Alan Harshbarger; uncle, Robert (Bob) Emile Bagnoli; and brother-in-law, Lee Edward Norton.

He leaves behind so many loved ones to cherish and remember his life: his best friend and wife of 33 years, Rae Angela Norton West; son, Malcolm (Mack) Wilson West; father, Eugene Wilson West; brother, Warren Keith West; and sister, Melissa Leigh West Beck and her husband, Brandon Beck. He also leaves his aunt, Carolyn Sue Harshbarger Bagnoli; mother-in-law, Carolyn Rae Bair Norton (with whom he loved to tend the family vegetable garden); and Carolyn’s sister, Cameron’s aunt, Judith Ann Bair. He also leaves his father-in-law, Malcolm (Mack) Joseph Norton and his loving wife, Rose Cremonese Norton; Rose’s daughter, Pam Cremonese Landolt; Rose’s sons, Ryan and Sean; and also, Kathy Cremonese Cunningham and children, Ukiah, Justin, and Emily. This is a wonderful extended family, and the list is very long with so many that loved dear Cameron. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law, Joseph (Jody) Robert Norton; Joseph’s children, Daniel, Aaron, Lynde, Ben, Elanie, Vayda, Maya Rae, and Allana; and also Cameron’s cousins, Allen Milton and his wife, Linda, and Kathy Harshbarger Overfelt and her husband, Lee.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, in the funeral home’s chapel with Rev. Robyn Angle officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
