Obituary for Phyllis Jean Harmon (Grubb)

Phyllis Jean Harmon (Grubb)
Phyllis Jean Harmon, a life-long resident of Roanoke, VA, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Friendship Manor Health & Rehab South on Tuesday, December 27, 2016. Phyllis was born on June 2, 1933 in Roanoke to the late Essie & Clifton Grubb. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Harmon and her adored daughter, Dee-Dee. She is survived by her “favorite” cousin, Sandi Rivera from Florida and her dear friend and neighbor, Charlotte McCauley.
Phyllis worked diligently as an entrepreneur developing various businesses in and around Roanoke. Later in her life she worked at the Friendship Manor for 22 years retiring at 79 years of age. She never agreed it was "time"!
Phyllis was truly a people person and never met a stranger. Her story telling skills were legendary. She could give you goose bumps, make your hair stand on end or laugh until you cried. She was an avid reader and stayed on top of all political activity. She loved the past election and could not wait until Donald Trump was elected. We are all so happy she was here to see it happen. She read a newspaper from front to back cover on a daily basis and then loved to share any line or story you may have overlooked. We will miss her updates and 2 am phone calls because she forgot to share something. She loved animals with the same passion as people. She could reel off the name of every western movie ever made as well as the actors. Phyllis was a feisty lady in her every day manner and lifted up all hearts she encountered. We often compared her to the “Energizer Bunny” because she never stopped going!
The Celebration of Phyllis’ life will be held at 11am Friday, January 6th, 2016 at Sherwood Memorial Park with Bishop Steven A. Norman, Pastor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jesus is Lord-Assembly Love Church, 702 Ferdinand Avenue SW, Roanoke, VA 24016.
