Obituary for Joyce Hopkins French

Joyce Hopkins French of Roanoke, entered her heavenly home on Sunday, November 27, 2016.

She was born April 10, 1937 to the late Bill and Linnie Hopkins of Max Meadows. Joyce retired from Moore’s Lumber and Building Supplies and then returned to employment with the American Federation of Government Employees, National VA Council. She loved to shop with her friends, decorate her home, attend Virginia Tech football games, cook and spend time with her family. She was an avid sports fan and was often seen in the stands at various local sporting events. She dearly loved her two granddaughters and two great-grandsons. She was often described by co-workers as a classy, hardworking, kind and caring lady. She loved to laugh and will always be remembered for her sense of humor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gene French.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Kim Briele and husband A.K.; granddaughters, Amy Briele and Sarah Coleman and her husband Bryan; two great-grandsons, Parker and Zachary Coleman, and a brother, Curtis Hopkins and his wife Carnella.

Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. Dr. John Furman will officiate. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
