James Keith Clem, 69, of Roanoke, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 14, 2016.
He was born in Norfolk, the son of the late Walter Joseph Clem and Clarice Wright Clem and had been an area resident most of his life. He proudly served his country with the US Army 11th Calvary during the Vietnam War, receiving the Purple Heart for injuries received. Jim was a long time member of the DAV, where he served as Dept. Commander, Chapter Commander and National Service Officer. He also served as Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, was a member of the VFW, and was avid Hokie fan and member of the Hokie Club. He most recently retired as a Major with the Virginia Defense Force.
He is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Hartless Clem; two sons, Joseph Clem and Michael Stover; two daughters, Jessica Clem Price and husband Danny, and Heather Stover; five grandchildren, Taylor Price, Abigayle Price, Jordyn Price, James Michael Price and Kenadee Paige Tripp. He is also survived by his special companion, his little beagle, Mia.
Services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, November 18, 2016 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. The Rev. Susan E. Bentley will officiate. Burial will follow at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin where graveside Military Honors will be afforded. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday at the funeral home.
