Eleanor Catherine Eversole Cox, 94, of Salem, sailed away to Heaven on Thursday, November 10, 2016. Eleanor was an accomplished pianist, singer, and artist. One of her most notable creations as an artist was her hand painted China pieces with a rose design that she created. Eleanor also handmade several clothing articles and quilts that she lovingly gave to her family. She was a prior member of South Roanoke Methodist and Windsor Hills Baptist Church. She was an avid bowler even up to the age of 90. One of her greatest accomplishments was raising six beautiful children. Eleanor lived a full and happy life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar L. Cox; son, Steven C. Cox; grandson, Tony Cox; and son-in-law, Patrick S. Greer. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Michael (Elena) L. Cox, Carolyn C. Greer, Martha (Preston) C. Thompson, David S. Cox and Gypsi A. Aleshire; grandchildren, Michael L. Cox, Nathan C. Cox, Angela (Jason) N. Shipp, Edward (Yolanda) C. Cox, Jessica (Stephen) R. Knox, Teresa M. Thompson, and Alexander (Shonacy) D. Cox; fourteen great-grandchildren; and special friend, Lindy Myers. A period of visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home with Pastor David Farmer officiating. The interment service will be held at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice and the staff of Lewis-Gale's 5th and 6th floors for their loving care and compassion.
