Obituary for Paul Verlyn Hyde

Paul Verlyn Hyde
Paul Verlyn Hyde, of Hardy, Virginia, and formerly of Charleston, West Virginia, entered his heavenly home on October 26, 2016 after a short illness. Paul is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Garrett Hyde of Hardy, Virginia; daughter, Shawna (Doug) Meeks of Charleston, West Virginia; son, Michael (Michelle Klishis) Hyde of Morgantown, West Virginia; stepdaughter, Lindsey (Michael) Cline of Louisburg, North Carolina; and stepdaughter, Lesley Fisher, of Littleton, North Carolina. He is also survived by his four precious grandchildren, Wilson and Maggie Meeks of Charleston, West Virginia, and Garrett and Neely Cline of Louisburg, North Carolina. His surviving brothers include Doug (Jeanne) Hyde of Lima, Ohio; Steve (Joyce) Kesler of Lima, Ohio; and David (Sydell) Kesler of Bradenton, Florida; and one sister, Susan (Ted) Eagleston of Indianapolis, Indiana. Paul worked for Columbia Natural Resources in Charleston, West Virginia as a petroleum engineer, where he retired in 2001. He began his consulting firm, P.V. Hyde Enterprises, shortly thereafter and retired in 2014. His love for fishing and boating led him to part-time employment as a boat salesman at Webster Marine in Moneta, Virginia. Paul was involved in many activities through the years, but his passion was reading, fishing in tournaments in the Eastern United States, boating with his family, spending time with his children and grandchildren and teaching them the importance of core values, including honesty, integrity, serving others and maintaining a strong work ethic. He loved the great outdoors and enjoyed teaching his grandchildren fishing, hunting, gardening, farming and boating. Paul and Debbie are active members of Eastlake Community Church in Moneta, Virginia, where he enjoyed studying God's word with his special Brothers in Christ, the Ironmen. He served as a mentor at the Agape Center, a local Christian charity, helping those who are less privileged. Paul was very special to all who knew him and will be remembered by his kind, gentle spirit and his quick humor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Agape Center, 1159 Promised Land Road, Moneta, Virginia, 24121. A celebration of Paul's life will be held at 4:00 PM, Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Eastlake Community Church, Moneta, where the family will receive visitors between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. An online guest book is available for family and friends by visiting www.johnmoakey.com. John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem, Virginia is in charge of arrangements.
