Obituary for Emery Albert White

Emery Albert  White
Emery Albert White, 92, of Salem, went to be with the Lord, and joined his beloved wife, Mary Catherine, on Wednesday, August 31, 2016. Emery was born in Akron, OH on February 20, 1924. He was a first generation American, his parents having emigrated from Hungary. Emery held degrees in Electrical Engineering receiving them from the University of Akron where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree and the University of Delaware where he obtained his Master’s Degree. Emery met, and later married, the love of his life, Mary Catherine Loucks. They married in St. Louis, MO on June 3, 1944, and shortly thereafter, Emery was sent to Hamburg, Germany where he served as an Army Intelligence Officer for the duration of WWII. Upon his return, Emery went to work for the Aberdeen Proving Grounds and then to General Electric as a design engineer in Phoenix, AZ. Emery eventually transferred to General Electric Drive Systems Plant in Salem, VA where he retired in 1988. Emery was preceded in death by, his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Catherine; son, Gregory G. White; son-in-law, Lawrence E. Mariner; parents, Emery A. White, Sr. and Paul and Goldie Kovach; and sister, Maruszka Fariezincki. Left to cherish his memory is daughter, Rosemary White-Mariner; son, Daniel White and wife, Betty; grandson, Keiffer White; sister, Anarachael Andropolizc of Budapest, Hungary; and numerous relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, VA.The Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Salem, VA with Father Ken Shuping. An interment service with military honors will follow at St. Andrew’s Diocesan Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Father Ken Shuping, Rev. Dr. Eric Surat and the parishioners of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for their support, Dr. Raj Bharathan for his wonderful care, as well as, the doctors and nurses of Lewis-Gale Medical Center’s Emergency Room and medical units, Amedisys Home Health and Visiting Angels, and especially, Wendy, Timeka, and Julianne for their care and compassion, Tina Dunlap and the many neighbors who reached out to our father, Salem Fire and Rescue for their diligence and compassion for the many times they were needed, and a very special thank you to Christopher Desimone and the staff of Anderson, Desimone, and Green.
