Obituary for Doris Elizabeth Kinzie (Hoy)

Doris Elizabeth Hoy Kinzie, 94, of Salem, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 1, 2016. She was born on August 20, 1921 in Boones Mill, VA to the late Rev. I.D. and Maude Hoy.
Doris graduated from Radford College and taught elementary school for several years prior to marrying the love of her life, Bob Kinzie. They resided in Salem their entire married life, where they raised their three daughters. A dedicated member of Green Hill Church of the Brethren for 69 years, Doris served diligently in many areas. She had a great love of music and enjoyed ministering to others. She loved spending time with her family, gardening, quilting, cooking and singing in the church choir.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert ‘Bob’ Kinzie; and brothers, Earl, Jesse and Harold Hoy.
A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mrs. Kinzie is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Clatfelter and husband Richard of Shelby, NC, Margaret Bishop and husband Don of Salem, and Sandra Bradford and husband Gary of Roanoke; granddaughters, Amy Clatfelter, Beth (Mat) Limon, Caroline (Andrew) Bost, and Kathleen Clatfelter; grandsons, Keith (Ellen) Bishop, and Kevin (Allyson) Bishop, and eleven great-grandchildren, Faith, Benson, Bradford, Davis, Kayley, Ethan, Anna Grace, Emmilyn, Parker, Ruby and Lakely. Doris is also survived by sisters Kathryn Snead and Helen (Harold) Landis; sister-in-law Helen Crumpacker as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, June 6, 2016 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. A memorial celebration will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Green Hill Church of the Brethren with Pastor Jim Worline officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
