James Harry  Lynch Jr.
James Harry Lynch, Jr, of Salem, Va., passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016, at the age of 91.

He was born on Saturday, June 7, 1924, to the late James and Mary Lynch of Long Beach, Calif. He was retired from Catawba Hospital as a Fiscal Officer. Jim was the inspirational patriarch of 10 children, and a WWII combat veteran of the United States Navy.

He is rejoined with his cherished wife of 66 years, Annette Ballentine Lynch. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Ruth Lynch; his brother, Jerry Lynch; his sister, June Clark; and a grandson, Jamey Sachs.

Jim influenced the lives of countless young men in Boy Scout Troop 51 at First United Methodist Church in Salem, where he was a lifelong member. The James H. Lynch Youth Service Award was created to honor his service to the scouts. He was the proud recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, as well as the distinguished Wood Badge.

He is survived by his children, Mary Ann Warren, Kitty Sachs, Susan Wire (Benson), Betsy Minor (John), Jim Lynch (Katy), Chuck Lynch, Andy Lynch (Laurie), John Lynch (Laurie), and Nancy Hadden (Derek); as well as a huge community of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at First United Methodist Church of Salem, Va.
