Richard Harding "Dick"  Fisher, Jr.
Richard “Dick” Harding Fisher, Jr., 64, of Salem, went peacefully to his heavenly home on Thursday, March 17, 2016 after courageously facing multiple myeloma and additional complications.
Richard was predeceased by parents, Dr. Richard and Anne Fisher. He is lovingly remembered by his step-mother, Helen Fisher; his siblings, Anne Andrews, Gwynn Derrick (Don), Bob Fisher (Betti), Jim Fisher (Judy), and Amy Miles; his nephews and nieces, Corey, John (Catherine), Paul, and Tim (Aldijana) Andrews, Matthew, Kevin (Britney), and Kimberly Franklin, Evan, Seth, Chris, Will, and Chad Fisher, James, Samuel, and Thomas Miles, Erinn (Troy) Nelson; great nephews and great nieces, Aidan, Tate, Mary Catherine, and Laila Andrews, Ruby and Vivian Franklin; his aunt, Helen Miller; his uncle, Richard Glover; and numerous cousins and friends.
Richard was born on February 23, 1952 in Richmond, Va. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Roanoke, Va. where he was active as team manager for both the baseball and basketball teams. Richard was active in Boy Scouts, having been inducted into the Order of the Arrow and hiking Philmont. He loved to travel to Florida and Myrtle Beach, go on cruises, and venture overseas as he did several times with his art class and beloved art teacher, Marie Hoal. Richard enjoyed sports, especially the Salem Red Sox games. He loved model cars and trains, country music, and the guitar. Richard was proud to display his ’65 Mustang GT at Olde Salem Days.
Richard was a longtime active member of Calvary Baptist Church, Roanoke and most recently a member of First Baptist Church, Roanoke. He was employed by SAV-A-STOP for many years prior to its closing. Richard retired in 2013 from Hardees where he worked for over 20 years. He was kind, had a generous heart, and never met a stranger. Richard will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, condolences may be expressed by donations made to Kennedy’s Disease Research at P.O. Box 1105, Coarsegold, Calif. 93614.
A period of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 21, 2016 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Sherwood Memorial Park.
