Obituary for Hugh Pendleton Tothill

Hugh Pendleton Tothill, 87, of Salem, went to join his wife Shirley in Heaven, on Wednesday, January 6, 2016.

He was born in Wytheville, a son of the late Richard and Frances Tothill and had been an area resident for over 45 years. He was a US. Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. Following his military service, Hugh attended Virginia Tech and then began a career as a civil engineer that spanned over thirty seven years, working for both the U.S. Forestry Service and the Commonwealth of Virginia. He was a long time member of Melrose Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Anderson Tothill, who passed away in 2011, and by two brothers, Frank and Charlie.

He is survived by his son, Richard Tothill and wife Becky, and his granddaughter, Jessica Tothill.

A Celebration of Hugh’s life will be held at 3PM, Friday, January 8, 2015 at Melrose Baptist Church. The Rev. Larry Sprouse will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Hugh’s honor may be made to Melrose Baptist Church 3520 Peters Creek Rd. Roanoke, VA 24019.
