On August 11, 2015, Ordained Pastor, Misty (Linda) Akers, of Roanoke, went to her Lord’s waiting arms. She was a former Head Start teacher, owner-operator of Toddletown Preschool and assistant manager of Pizza Inn. A graduate of Floyd County High School, VWCC & various seminars. Waiting at the gate are her parents, Boyd and Marie Akers; and special brother-in-law, Scott Belcher. She looked forward to meeting Perna Crenshaw, and special friends, Mona, Cindy, Kathy and Wanda. Her friends on both sides of the rainbow were many and dear, especially Sherrie Hickson.
A lifetime advocate for children, forgiving, loving and strong family matriarch.
Misty leaves her children, Jamie Belcher (Kim), Angela Childress (Randy), Jason Boyd, Randy Boyd, Krista Lofton (Jimmy), Alayna Rushbrooke and army soldiers, Sierra Rushbrooke Hairston (Barry); grandchildren, who she proudly loved, Jacob, Zach, Tori, Chelsea, Hunter, Madison and Scott and precious great-granddaughter, Gracelyn Anders; her special chosen family, Dana Perry, Leslie Kelly, Haven Janney, Jessi Dodson, Ben, Sara, Joseph, Alice Rushbrooke; half-brother, David; and with warmest love, Mike Nardone, Rick Mason, Roger Day, Sharon H., Melissa L., Rodney, Henry and Becky Jackson, Megan Kessler, Roger Thomas, Barbara and Tamara. She leaves so much love for family and friends, too many too list.
Misty is hoping for forever loving homes for her beloved pets, Shayla, Sugar and SheDaisy. She has wonderful memories of her dogs Baby, AJ, Max and special Cindy. Per Misty’s wishes, she will be cremated. There will be a celebration of life this Saturday August 15, 2015 at 2pm at her home of 2642 Saunders Road, Vinton, VA 24179. The Family will be planting Azaleas for Misty at a later date.
