Earnest Eugene Nichols (Gene/Nick), 89, of Salem, beloved husband and father, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2015. He was born on April 2, 1925 in Fries, VA, to the late Early and Minnie Nichols. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Rocky, four brothers and one sister. Family remaining to cherish his memory includes his wife, Mildred; daughter Pat Kincer and husband, Jim; son, Steve Nichols and wife, Glenna; three grandsons, two great-grandsons, a special step-grandson and two sisters and their spouses. Numerous nieces, nephews, three sisters-in-law and a special friend, Joe Wimmer also survive. He retired from Kroger Distribution Center in 1987 after 25 years of faithful and dedicated service. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 from 6 until 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services to honor his life will be conducted on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke.
