Obituary for Nancy Marie Young

Nancy Young, 79, of Roanoke, died at Lewis Gale Hospital on Friday, March 14, 2014, following a long illness. The daughter of the late Reece William Shreve and Nell Shreve, Nancy was born on May 28, 1934, in Tazwell County, VA, and resided in Bluefield, WV, and Kimball Acres and Camelot Village in Salem, VA, before moving to Friendship Retirement Community in Roanoke, VA, in 2014.
Nancy is survived by her son, Carl Young (Allyson) of Raleigh, NC; and daughter, Candace Gladden (Kelly) of Salem, VA; her sister, Faye Lowe of Richlands, VA; her brother, Jerry Shreve of Bluefield, WV; four grandchildren, Hannah Young of Raleigh, Camden Young of Raleigh, Tyler Gladden of Salem, and Jack Gladden of Salem; and her close friends John Shumate of Roanoke, VA, and Patty Collins, Andrea Hutchinson, and Brenda Crawford of Salem, VA.
A longtime resident of Salem, VA, Nancy was known to many in the community through her convenience store and courthouse employment. She had many friends and enjoyed making others smile and laugh as much as possible. Nancy was known for telling it like it is or how it should be. She loved sports, cheered loudly for the Salem Spartans and Virginia Cavaliers, and loved her children and grandchildren fiercely.
Her family would like to thank everyone at Camelot Village, Roanoke County Courthouse, West Salem Medical Center (Dr. John Priddy), Lewis Gale Hospital, Salem Dialysis Center, Salem Rescue Squad, and Friendship Retirement Community for all of the help, support, care, and love you have given Nancy over the years.

The family will receive friends to share memories of Nancy at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, VA, from 6 until 8 pm on Tuesday, March 18, 2014.
A private burial for family will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, WV.
