Obituary for Raymond H. Nester

Raymond H. Nester, 64, of Salem, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2012. He was born in Roanoke, a son of the late Vernon L. and Evelyn Nester and was a life long resident of the Salem area. He worked many years for CSI Inc. He was known to many as an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed deer hunting, riding motorcycles, and going to the beach and mountains. Raymond enjoyed attending car shows and even fixed up his own 1947 Dodge Business Coupe. Even with all his hobbies and interests, he always made his family his first priority. Raymond truly loved his family. They will remember him as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who never broke a promise, good or bad. He was tough when he needed to be, but was always loving. Raymond was a true fighter. He began his battle with cancer in 2006. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert L Nester and wife Sandra, Donald E Nester and one sister Caroyln Webb. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Linda Nester; two sons Darryl D. Nester and wife Jodi Lynn, and Johnny Ray “JR” Nester and Heather Nicole; one daughter Loretta Lynn Nester Spradlin and husband Bobby; three sisters-in-law, Ricky L. Nester, Cynthia Dunbar and husband Larry, and Sheila Crosswhite and husband Mike; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. A special friend and personal RN, LeRena Barrett, had many specail moments talking about hunting. Also special thanks to Dr Matab Foroozesh a great doctor and good friend for all her support for the family. A memorial service to honor the life of Raymond H. Nester will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 2PM in the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem. Rev, Roy E. Kanode will be presiding.
