In Loving Memory of
Robert Allan Pittman passed away at the age of 54 on
Friday, November 25, 2005 with his wife, Dean, by his side.
Bob was born in
Roanoke
on March 5, 1951 to Ruth and Bill Pittman.
He was a graduate of
William
Fleming
High School
, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from
High Point
University
, and completed a Master of Arts in Social Rehabilitation and Social
Services from
Sam
Houston
State
University
. Bob’s educational path led
him to a rewarding career as a counselor for 30 years with Blue Ridge
Behavioral Healthcare. While
employed, Bob gained a reputation as being a devoted, understanding, and
caring mental health care provider and mentor to many in the field.
Bob enjoyed his career choice and the rewards of seeing people of
all ages and backgrounds excel. He
retired in October of 2005 with an outstanding reputation amongst his
colleagues and friends and received recognitions as part of his
retirement. Most importantly,
Bob was a loving husband and devoted father to his two girls.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, William C. Pittman and
Ruth Cornish Pittman, and grandparents, William and Kathryn Pittman, and
Paul and Leona Cornish. He is
survived by his wife of 32 years, Dean Pittman, and two daughters, Maria
Pittman of
Casper
,
Wyoming
and Amanda Pittman of
Salem
,
Virginia
and his loyal dog, Buddy. Bob
is also survived by his sister, Mary F. Pittman of Atlanta, and his
brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Pam Pittman of Johnson City, TN,
father-in-law, William Herndon of Roanoke, sister-in-law, Toni Hardy and
husband, Ray, brother-in-law, Don Herndon and wife, Carol.
Also surviving are two nieces, Emily Pittman of
Wilmington
,
NC
and Tane Hardy of
Elkins
,
WV
and two nephews, Preston Pittman of Johnson City, TN and Forest Hardy of
Palm Bay, FL. Bob also has
three great nieces and two great nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at
11:00 am at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel in
Salem
. Interment will follow at
Sherwood
Memorial Park
. The family will receive
friends on Sunday, November 27, 2005 from 6-8 pm and Monday, November 28,
2005 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
